Senior Business Analyst at Accenture Australia and New Zealand
Bachelor of Biomedicine / Diploma in Mathematical Sciences at University of Melbourne
What's your job about?
Accenture is a global technology and consulting firm that helps businesses solve problems and innovate using technology. I work as a Business Analyst in a software development team for data and AI-powered solutions, acting as the bridge between our clients and the developers who build our products.
My day usually starts with client meetings—understanding their needs, gathering feedback, and identifying ways to improve our product. Then, I work with the development team to refine requirements, discuss timelines, and ensure we’re delivering what the client truly needs. Once a new tech feature is ready, I support its rollout and track its impact to make sure it’s solving the right problem.
A fun way to think about my job? Imagine running a business that depends on technology—whether it’s a retail store, a hospital, or a bank. Now, what happens when your payment system crashes, patient records don’t load, or insurance claims don’t process? That’s where we come in. We help businesses prevent those nightmares, making sure technology runs smoothly so they can focus on what they do best.
What's your background?
I grew up in Shanghai, China, and attended international school there before moving back to Australia for university. I chose to study biomedical science with a big dream of mastering the most intricate system you can find in the world, but somewhere along the way, I realised I enjoyed the beauty of logic and systems a lot more and naturally sidetracked to maths and engineering.
At uni, I was super involved in clubs and societies, being part of committees and constantly trying new things. Accenture’s Technology Bootcamp was literally a winter break sign-up when I saw the ad pop-up on Instagram — the thought process was very simple, just to see what working in tech might be like. I barely have any coding experience but found myself fascinated by the solution design and project management part of the role I was playing during the bootcamp. I started to learn more about the peripherals of programming, applied for Accenture because I loved the culture and people that I worked with during the bootcamp, and voila here I am!
On a side note, I did have moments of uncertainty when deciding my career path closer to my uni graduation. I spent some time reflecting about myself in the mountains on my solo trip to Japan, and thought maybe consulting could be an industry for me. Fast forward, I guess it’s a dream-come-true story where I am now in an environment where I could constantly learn, solve problems, and work with great people.
Could someone with a different background do your job?
Yes! Technology and consulting thrive on adaptability. Regardless of background, success in this field comes from a willingness to learn, unlearn, and apply knowledge creatively.
This job is all about:
Because of how everything is fast paced with the ever-changing and evolving landscape of technology, as long as you hold an efficient and solid framework to keep learning and problem-solving, you will thrive here!
What's the coolest thing about your job?
For me, the best part is seeing how our work directly impacts businesses. Every industry runs on technology, whether it’s retail, healthcare, finance, or even agriculture. When something isn’t working, it can disrupt their operations completely (flashback to CrowdStrike 2024). Knowing that the solutions we build keep businesses running smoothly is incredibly rewarding.
I love walking into a store, a hospital, or even an airport and recognising the systems we support behind the scenes. It’s like having a superpower—you see how everything connects in the digital world. That realisation never gets old!
What are the limitations of your job?
I would say our job isn’t always a neat 9-to-5. Since we work with global clients and teams across different time zones, early morning or late-night meetings can happen. Managing work-life balance takes effort, and setting boundaries is super important.
Another challenge is the fast-paced nature of the job. Priorities shift quickly, and projects evolve constantly. If you like predictable work with clear-cut tasks, this role might get frustrating sometimes. But if you thrive in an environment where almost no two days feel the same from the context switching, it can be incredibly exciting!
