All female grad intake is a fantastic move. it shows a solid level of commitment, however there's still a while until aemo has gender parity.

I feel very comfortable within my organisation as a female. diversity and inclusion committee has great initiatives which are listened to and implemented by the broader business and leadership team.

It's great to see a good balance of women/men in management roles

There's a lot of great initiatives with gender diversity at the moment that are emerging, and aemo's culture is really great from a d&i perspective. other areas like ethnicity, and disability are still emerging in aemo's d&i initiatives, and the lgbtqia+ community at aemo has really established itself over the past few years.

Aemo is a very inclusive workforce, primarily driven by the individuals who work here being open minded and respectful. recruitment and retention are done according to skills and experience, there appear to be no biases in that respect.

There's a network of lgbt+ colleagues (and allies). corporate events celebrating idahobit, naidoc week, international women's day, religious holidays, etc.
Graduate, Adelaide - 13 Aug 2021
Aemo culture respects diversity deeply. it's been very accommodating of people's needs and there is a decent level of diversity throughout leadership and the organization. that's not to say aemo can't improve but it's doing a good job. i regularly see staff cutting back on days temporarily to care for new babies and children, it's part of aemo's strong flexibility.

It is improving with each year more presentations and workshops as well as social tea and breakfasts to discuss and honor women and lgbt culture not too much on ethnic minorities

There is very good diversity of backgrounds of employees. there is a greater struggle in diversity between men and women however this may be the nature of the industry.
Graduate, Sydney - 02 Mar 2017
It doesn't appear as though diversity is an issue in the recruitment process. we have a great, diverse bunch of colleagues, all of whom have integrated well within the company and its culture.

We've just hired a female ceo - how exciting!
Midlevel, Perth - 02 Feb 2017
Good diversity and flexible working hours help. new ceo a woman so likely that will help the gender balance in senior roles.
Graduate, Melbourne - 02 Feb 2017
Current staff is quite ethnically diverse and has some openly lgbt members with no issues. fairly poor regarding gender mix, few women in technical roles/management. likely due to high proportion of older male engineering types in the workplace. good primary career leave.

What does your company do to attract applicants from less privileged backgrounds?
This is a future area to target. currently i'm not aware of any initiatives in this vein.
Graduate, Sydney - 13 Aug 2021
My understanding is that conscious effort is made to recruit from a wide-ranging cohort. we do not want to be seen as only recruitment from certain universities and would much rather recruit the best people for the job.
Graduate, Brisbane - 13 Aug 2021
I think by having a culture that embraces reconciliation and diversity outwardly, and a culture that is very respectful of diversity we are attracting ourselves to applicants from less privileged backgrounds.
