Your role

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance Australia has an exciting opportunity for what they call an Underwriting Technician (UT) to work within and support the company's underwriting team. The role will perform administrative and operational tasks to directly support the underwriting process including pre-quote, pre-bind, bind and post-bind transactions. The UT will also perform additional underwriting support activities associated with information gathering and rating for new business, renewals and midterm changes. Additionally, the UT will assist with electronic file preparation on behalf of the Underwriter.

Duties & Responsibilities: What does the job involve?

  • Supporting underwriters with all activities related to managing an Insured (customer) account
  • Manage the files for each Insured which involves ensuring that the appropriate documents are all held electronically. The documentation relates to what the Broker provides, Claims Information, how the underwriter assesses the customer risk and comes up with a price etc
  • Once a premium (price) is agreed to ensure that a policy is issued to the customer
  • Ensure that the information the broker sends to BHSI (Broker submission) and all required underwriting data are accurate
  • Once the Underwriter has determined the premium draft quotes and binding notices for the customers and reviewed them with underwriters prior to sending them out
  • Correspond with brokers; follow up on outstanding information
  • Work with teammates in other offices and countries to ensure that tasks are completed within agreed time frames
  • Develop a broad understanding of the Insurance Industry and how it is all managed
