Your role

The Inter should expect to support and improve the following:

  •   Support Launch and Change Coordinators with engineering changes:
    • Create, manage, and validate component overviews for specific parts of the car.
    • Contribute to Test Car BOM (Bill of Material) validation, where the new design changes are verified (i.e., the correct part is systematically steered to the correct vehicle)
    • Support the coordination of Line Trials, where new parts are physically tested in the production environment.
    • Investigate design topics through data analysis.
    • Report generation and maintenance.
  • Major projects in this role focus on efficiency improvements and data accuracy, which could include:
    • Implementing solutions to improve efficiency in the processes.
    • Complete various process mapping exercises (e.g., process flow, swim lane, etc.)
    • Create a content overview for different vehicle modules.
    • Facilitates workshops to define the current process and outline areas of opportunity.

Training, development & rotation

This is a co-op position which requires three alternating rotations (e. g. 1st rotation: spring, 2nd rotation: fall, 3rd rotation: summer).

The student will be exposed to new product content, involved in projects, and engaged in collaborative department work.  Candidates will support the launch and change coordinators with activities to verify the bill of material and demand logic changes for vehicle production. They will develop the student to lead thown process improvement projects. Activities will focus on further development optimisationzing of data analytical systems to improve processes and reporting and direct support of the team steering new integration levels into launch and series product.

About you

Skills that will help you succeed in this role:

  • Pursuing a BS or Graduate Degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Business Management, Operations Management, MIS (Management Information Systems), Computer Science or other relevant degrees.
  • MS Excel and Office Suite knowledge.
  • Strong computer aptitude (ability to learn BMW Group systems, SAP, SQL, etc.)
  • Project Management.
  • Planning and Organizational skills; able to manage many projects and responsibilities in a structured manner.
  • Ability to work independently and show initiative.
  • VBA (or Python) and JAVA skills are preferred.
  • Knowledge or experience of manufacturing processes and workflows preferred.
  • The German language is a plus.
  • Possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (not just in major).
  • Have full-time status at an accredited four-year college or university in the United States.
  • They completed at least 30 credit hours at the time of application.
  • Ability to complete 3 alternating work terms for Co-op positions.
  • Ability to work full-time (40 hours/week).
  • Transfer students must have a GPA from their current university.
  • Complete and pass a substance abuse test before the work term.
  • You must attach a copy of the unofficial transcript.
  • The work term dates are (August 12th-December 13th, 2024).
