How flexible is your company when it comes to hours?
Clerks generally don't have the option to work remotely unless their team is generous.

The work hours are fairly standard in the summer clerk position.
Summer Clerk, Sydney - 07 Feb 2025
As an intern/law clerk, work hours and arrangements are very flexible. We can work from home whenever we need and can adjust work hours if things come up.

I start at 9:00 and leave at 5:00 - enough said

Fairly flexible, WFH is permitted on a couple days per week. Always good to be visible and readily available though.

The hours are wonderful and provide a good balance with my personal life!

Flexible dependent on team, however working from home is not unusual.

The clerkship has very flexible hours and the capacity to work from home (practice area dependent)
Summer Clerk, Sydney - 03 Feb 2025
The seasonal clerks have very good work-life balance, and typically do not work outside the hours of 9-5:30. Some teams are more flexible than others when it comes to work from home opportunities for clerks.
Intern, Sydney - 03 Feb 2025
Clerkship hours are pretty standard 9-5. Though I don't understand this to be reflective of life post-clerkship.

The team I am in allows for flexible working hours which has made my life easy and enhanced my ability to get my work done. I am allowed to leave early if required and so I am happy to stay late at times when required

It is working in top tier law - this is by nature awful. It is better than other firms but it is par for the course in signing up to this role.

The hours can be (very) long during busy periods and there can be limited flexibility during busy periods.

The nature of legal profession does lead to the occasional periods of long hours but this is not the norm at Clayton Utz. People are able to maintain a great work life balance as long as they communicate well. The support system at the firm helps with this quite alot.

Generally, the working hours for me have been fine. However, it seems that most of my team work very long hours, which makes me question whether work-life balance is achievable at the firm once settled in a team

Our team has been relatively quiet so my hours have been fine (not too much overtime).
Graduate, Sydney - 27 Aug 2024
Very flexible. No mandated office days. Team specific but no huge divergences.
Graduate, Melbourne - 16 Jul 2024
As long as the work is done, the team is happy for you to be in the office only as necessary.

Hours are reasonable. Changes depending on demand but I have the ability to come in and leave when is appropriate (given reasonable). Company is flexible when it comes to hours.

Considering this is a top-tier law firm, I am very satisfied with the hours. They seem to be reasonable. There is an element of present ism which doesn't affect me as I like to come into the office everyday anyway. But for those who need to work from home, depending on the team, it can be challenging to maintain flexibility while ensuring you receive work/engagement from colleagues.
