Culture at Commonwealth Superannuation Corporation (CSC)

8.2
8.2 rating for Culture, based on 32 reviews
Please describe your company's culture both in the office and after hours. Let us know about the structure and hierarchy, cooperation and teamwork, and socialising amongst colleagues.
There is a decent culture at CSC. Any time that there have been issues, I have had full support of my manager and the HR team. There are sometimes after work get togethers which are fun.

Office has a very fun, social atmosphere. Lots of opportunities to socialise outside of work

I would say the culture is overall very positive. While I have had the displeasure of hearing some consistently negative impressions of the people and/or culture, what I have seen around the office and after hours (including from these individuals) has been overwhelmingly positive. Most teams are comprised of wonderfully supportive and dedicated people. Most people I have spoken to are content with the opportunities for career progression and are fond of their team. It can be a bit frostier between different teams - although this appears to be from individual relationships (such as the negative people I mentioned previously having bad impressions of members of other teams based on personal interactions.) Although this is restricted to a small number of employees, it has been disappointing that these people have been able to position themselves as mentors and approach the graduates, to share (what I believe to be unfair) impressions of senior staff members. Many of the colleagues have quite strong social relationships which makes day-to-day work more enjoyable. The business is very generous with learning, team-building and cultural events and supports a healthy work-life balance which I can see reflected in the culture of its employees.

There are team leaders, managers, senior managers and executive. However, it only feels like the exec are hierarchy. Great people to work with and outside of work events are common.

Overall good culture, everyone is friendly. But again, when it comes to money stuff a lot could be better. Generally unclear what I should be expected to earn after completion of grad role, and the upper management does nothing to make thing clearer.

The fortnightly Happy Hour sessions are well attended across the Department. There are also lots of health and wellbeing events held at lunchtime, cultural events and our Social Club is very active. I've interacted with a lot of SES staff in the course of my work and found most to be very helpful and approachable.

Positive in my particular area but highly variable. Quite hierarchical but sociable in my branch, friendly

Very relaxed and friendly with a lot of socialising. Hierarchy is still important but nobody gets too serious about it.

Everyone is very willing to help new people, especially graduates. There is not much pretention. People are genuine and hard-working rather than devoted to climbing the corporate ladder.

In certain divisions the culture is not as positive, I have had diverse experiences in terms of the Department's culture. Overall, however, the Department has a welcoming and cooperative team environment. Structurally, the Department is top heavy (EL1-2) and this can prove interesting in terms of group dynamics.

The Department appears to have good leadership and there is a positive work culture in all areas I have directly experienced.

my current section is good, there is a very flat structure, everyone is approachable, the atmosphere is very much focused on team work. I have however been in other areas where the work culture was not positive.

In general, the Department is an inviting and friendly place to work. The Graduate Program's social club manages a Happy Hour every pay-week (we have a bar in our Department). The Happy Hour can run anywhere from 4:30pm through to 10pm, and is a great chance to socialize with your colleagues and make new contacts. Entering the department as a Graduate, you are given a lot of ongoing support. In addition, you tend to make friends with other Graduates and they become your social network (particularly because many Graduates move to Canberra for work). In my current team, all staff are expected to help one another as required. My immediate team are friendly, hardworking and friendly people who I can rely on for advice or support.

Fantastic culture. The Department is very keen to develop graduates, and all of my Supervisors have been very approachable. My team often have lunch together, and we enjoy going out socially while being a cohesive working group.

There is a healthy emphasis on work-life balance, a very active social club, fortnightly happy hour and limited derogatory or offensive behavior.

There is a great amount of support, in terms of training and socially, in Canberra. People there were very supportive and happy to share their knowledge. Most areas I have worked in in Canberra have had an open door policy and those at the SES level have been very open and supported their teams.

The culture at the Department is one of a kind. People are friendly and your friendships extend beyond your immediate work area to all over the Department. Social events are held where colleagues, from all levels in the Department, mingle and interact informally.
