Position Summary:
The Valuation & Analytics (“V&A”) team is looking for an intern to join its team.
This team provides valuation and analytical services related to financial instruments for Deloitte's clients in North America and worldwide.
The specialist assistant may work on the valuation of financial instruments (such as fixed income, equity, credit derivatives, structured products, and other financial instruments) for both internal and external clients, and may also be involved in consulting services related to quantitative analytics.
Work you’ll do:
The V&A service area is comprised of practitioners with skills related to the understanding and application of technical accounting standards, financial reporting, valuation techniques and methodologies for derivatives, financial instruments, and other investment products, forward price curve development methodologies, quantitative risk assessment and forecasting models, structured finance transactions, cash flow modeling, data integrity, data modeling, statistical sampling, capital markets transaction support, and due diligence.
In addition, with experience and training in the audit approach and testing procedures, many V&A professionals provide subject matter assistance to audit engagement teams.
Sample responsibilities may include:
Performing independent pricing of financial instruments
Building and executing data analytics to support audit objectives, using tools such as SAS, R, SQL, ACL, Tableau, Power BI, Python, Visual Basic, and others
Evaluating whether a client’s Allowance for Credit Losses (ACL) methodology is reasonable and consistent with GAAP accounting
Preparing audit documentation of valuations
Collaborating with audit teams across companies of all sizes and across multiple industries
Building and managing relationships and communications with audit team members
Presenting complex information in an understandable manner
About you
Required Qualifications:
Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in information systems, statistics, business analytics, math, economics, industrial & operations engineering, computer engineering, decision sciences or data sciences, or a related field with relevant coursework
Familiarity with analytical and visualization software packages/tools/languages (i.e. SAS, R, SQL, ACL, Tableau, Power BI, Python, Visual Basic)
Familiarity with financial markets, financial instrument valuation (including derivatives and structured products), trading, deal structuring or risk management
Ability to explain difficult financial modeling/valuation concepts to diverse audiences and to experts at various clients
Candidate needs to be comfortable providing technical assistance and financial modeling expertise to non-technical clients and internal teams
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Travel up to 10% may be required
Candidates must be at least 18 years of age at the time of employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Pursuing a Master’s degree in information systems, statistics, business analytics, math, economics, industrial & operations engineering, computer engineering, decision sciences or data sciences, or a related field with relevant coursework
Strong academic record, minimum GPA of 3.0
Relevant work experience (i.e. internships, summer positions, school jobs)
Strong analytical and computer skills including experience with quantitative analysis technical tools such as Bloomberg, Refinitiv-Eikon, Crystal Ball, or SuperDerivatives are a plus
Background in derivatives finance, including detailed knowledge of derivatives theory securities pricing, and financial instrument types and structures is a plus
Experience with Asset Liability Management (ALM) or Counterparty Valuation Adjustment (CVA) is a plus
Experience with wholesale/retail credit models (i.e. PD/LGD/ALLL), interest rate risk, counterparty credit risk, and/or operational risk models is a plus
Experience with SPAN/clearing/margin models is a plus
Experience with economic capital models is a plus
Experience with insurance/actuarial models is a plus
Understanding of financial instrument valuation concepts is desired and experience with derivatives and complex financial instruments valuation is a plus
Compensation & benefits
A reasonable estimate of the current range is $31.62 to $57.12 per hour.
