The interview process included submitting an application with a cover letter and resume. Then once accepted, I had to complete psychometric training (I think) and a digital interview. This digital interview was done in a way so that a question would appear on the screen and then I would have time to prepare for it, and then answer it. This answer was recorded. Finally I had to do the face to face interview.

I applied, received an email saying I was shortlisted, received a call with further information about the job, had a formal interview over teams, offered the job.

The interview process was the most relaxed interview I undertook in my search for a job, I was made to feel welcome and at ease, as well as being asked questions that I felt comfortable answering and allowed me to show myself off.

After initial application, I underwent a phone screening which was followed by an invitation to an 45 minute online interview with my current manager (Project Manager), Senior People and Capability Advisor and HR representative. Within 11 days, I was accepted and offered a place in the FH's 2023 Graduate Intake. Following this, the onboarding process included providing important documents for identification/ verification and a medical which I scheduled for the very next day after receiving the offer letter.

I was asked a few questions about myself as an introduction, who I am, my hobbies etc. I was then asked about my studies, why I studied environmental science, what I liked about it and if there were any aspects of it I thoroughly enjoyed. After that I was asked questions about when I showed leadership, how I dealt with difficult situations when they arised, examples of when I was driven to complete a goal. To best prepare I would recommend preparing yourself to be asked situational questions about leadership, struggle, commitment etc. I would also say to learn and know the values of the company and be able to weave them into your responses. Doing research on the company you are applying for is important, know the projects happening, what works the company is involved in and upcoming projects aswell. This proves that you are interested in where the company is going.

I would advise candidates to be themselves and ensure they are well educated on what the company stands for. As well as knowing what they want and going after it, being enthusiastic and passionate about your role.

They should research about the company they are applying for. Learn the REAL values and understand that FH is predominately a construction company requiring passion in wanting to be on site. Describe their reason for why you are choosing engineering/ Fulton Hogan to see if it truly aligns with FH values/ company culture.

Stay relaxed, nothing to prepare, keep your mind free and be confident. Getting a little nervous is pretty common before the interview but their process makes it easier once you are in.

Make sure you ask lots of questions in the interview to get a good sense of what working in construction would be like. I would also suggest that if you have an interest in a particular area you communicate that so they can accommodate for your interests when placing you on a project.
