This presents an exciting opportunity for a student in their final year or a recent graduate to begin their career in the construction industry which is currently booming. This role will best suit someone who has a genuine interest in Health and Safety as a career.

You will work at both an office and site-level to assist with the implementation and maintenance of various Health and Safety documentation, processes and initiatives, while supporting us in maintaining our Living Safely culture.

By working closely with our Safety Managers, you will learn key safety activities at an operational level that play an important part in how Fulton Hogan build and manage critical infrastructure across Australia that connects communities and helps shape a better world.

What we need from you:

  • Flexibility to undertake regular travel to our project sites, in addition to occasional weekend work or night-shift.

Our Graduate Program includes:

  • A tailored career development framework (CDF) which provides you with a structured career pathway from a graduate through to a Safety Manager. The CDF empowers and enables you to develop the knowledge, skills and experience required for a long-term career with us.
  • Genuine hands-on experience acquired through your exposure to different projects within your chosen business stream.
  • Social learning and networking opportunities through our National Graduate induction, mentoring program and Graduate Community Group.

As a comms graduate, the workload can be huge one day and small the next, but I feel like my line manager has increased my responsibilities and workload in a well constructed, supportive and logical way. My responsibilities are growing as I learn more, and I find that this helps my confidence! My work has largely been in assisting events, logging data, organising community engagement, discussing with the local community, emailing community members and managing occupations and their affect on the community. Additionally, I work directly with the client to draft and distribute works notices, working as a intermediary between the engineers and the community. The work and the job has exceeded my expectations.

Pros and cons of working at Fulton Hogan

Pros

  • I think the best thing about the company is the open working culture within colleagues. I was a bit scared as I am a chemical engineer but I was about to work in a construction/civil company. But, as soon as I started, I felt welcomed and at ease. The team I started with was just amazing and helped me settle in perfectly. Couldn't have asked for a better start.

  • Extremely supportive and friendly seniors that encourages, guides and mentors graduate to excel in their roles and provides opportunities to gain exposure/ experience in the industry.

  • The opportunities to learn, being given the time and space to travel between sites, to train and learn new things or refresh old skills. Having a team of incredible people that I can turn to for support and ask questions!

  • The atmosphere is super friendly that fosters growth and collaboration. The abundance of amazing learning opportunities to equip me with valuable skills and knowledge, complemented by a well-structured graduate program.

  • I think the best thing is the opportunity to work alongside a wide range of people and disciplines, opening your eyes to so many different skill sets. This gives you the opportunity to constantly learn, particularly as I am not from a construction or engineering background. Everybody in my direct and wider team is open to assisting me as well as having a laugh while still delivering great outcomes for the community. I really enjoy the top-down positive and cohesive environment that the team here provides, in more ways than one. I really enjoy working here!

Cons

    • You have to be quite adaptable, given the organisation's requirements are constantly changing you have to switch up what you are doing quite frequently.

    • Work Life Balance.

    • Long Working Hours, and Very Remote Place.

    • Long commute time to different projects.

    • Sometimes I work long hours (I like my job and the work, so I'm okay with it, but others may not be).
