Your role

As a Fixed Income Division intern at Morgan Stanley, you’ll join a dynamic 8–10-week Summer Internship Program designed to deepen your understanding of the crucial role the Fixed Income Division plays within the firm. During the internship, you'll gain exposure to the fast-paced and evolving global markets, where the team assesses and manages risk, trades securities, maintains client relationships, and executes innovative transactions. This role offers comprehensive learning experience in the core functions of the Fixed Income Division.

What you’ll do in the role:

  • Planning, Analysis & Reporting: Optimizing business performance reporting and planning (P&L, Capital, Expenses, etc.). Analyzing revenue, expenses, interactions, and headcount on a regular and ad-hoc basis. Preparing regular revenue and other business performance reports for senior management highlighting performance, and momentum. Assist in presentations for senior management on performance metrics and key initiatives. Maintaining and updating client tier, segmentation, and coverage details.
  • Collaboration: Supporting the Sales and Trading desks. Work with IT developers on report production and enhancements. Liaise with Finance, Operations, Legal, Technology, Risk (Credit & Market) to ensure delivery of key business objectives and projects are delivered according to expectations. Collaborating with Controllers, IT, Risk, and other support groups to improve management reporting regularly, and wherever possible automate and standardize existing reporting structure. Work closely with BU Risk Management on Non-Market Risk initiatives and daily management.
  • COO Support: Support global/regional COOs on project initiatives with coordination and follow-up. Working closely with COOs on key initiatives in managing and planning the business (strategic/operational/functional/IT). Preparing business performance deep dive packs for senior management meetings.

What you’ll do in the role:

  • Surveillance: Implementation, execution, and oversight of the FID trading surveillance reports, including both client and principal activity. Develop business requirements documents and write procedures related to surveillance. Develop and present metrics to management related to trade surveillance. Leading, contributing to, or collaborating on various divisional or firm-wide projects related to strategic processes and surveillance models required for regulatory compliance.
  • Risk Control Group (RCG): Review surveillance reports and manage the mappings and assignments of surveillance and other reports across the division. Perform front-line supervision for the Global Fixed Income division. Ability to create executive-level presentations of metrics by assessing and analyzing behavioral patterns and themes. Perform organizational chart validation and cleanup and roster cleanup (including validation of licensing and registration data). Identify process enhancements for voice recording and email surveillance processes and improve timeliness and execution quality. Explore possibilities to automate manual reports/validation checks.
  • Client Risk: Read through the Corporate Security reports, analyze and identify areas that could be beneficial/harmful for the firm. Accordingly, prepare background reports for the Client Selection Committee. Perform due diligence on the client and draw out as much detail on the client as possible. Ability to create executive-level presentations for Client Selection.
  • Entitlements: Review the configuration and linkages to downstream systems to ensure straight-through processing of entitlements. Prepare workflows for each downstream system. Suggest ways to modify workflow to ensure better productivity. Produce metrics for reporting of work done by the team and for data accuracy and timeliness of execution. Maintain procedures database for reference. Maintaining documentation related to client account setup on electronic trading platforms.

About you

Qualifications

  • MBA (Finance) from reputed institutes; Financial, Economics, Mathematics/Engineering or business-related studies preferred.
  • Familiarity with Fixed Income products (Rates, Bonds, Credit, Foreign Exchange, Commodities) will be advantageous.
  • Able to work effectively as an individual contributor.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and related applications (Excel Pivots/Lookups/Functions, PowerPoint).
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Willing and eager to learn and work with different teams and divisions of the Firm.
  • Strong motivation - a self-starter with a positive outlook and desire to solve problems.
  • Strong analytical skills with an ability to understand complex workflows.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate objectives, requirements, risks, and issues to senior management and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to identify and escalate issues effectively and appropriately.
  • Good organizational skills and a high degree of attention to detail.
