Your role

Morgan Stanley is seeking interns to join their Legal & Compliance Team for the Apprenticeship Program.

In the Legal & Compliance division, they protect the Firm’s business by identifying risks and designing programs and policies that guide internal teams on ways to address or mitigate those outcomes.

What you will do in the role

  • Review and analyze trade surveillance reports/alerts and sign off alert completion related to employee and client trading activities.
  • Conduct investigations on irregularities and abnormal activities and document findings.
  • Participate in defining and documenting the operating processes for processing Monitoring reports.
  • Help the senior manager in making the team and processes more efficient.
  • Create Management Information Reports on a periodic basis.
  • Escalate unresolved issues or potential violations of Morgan Stanley’s policies or external rules and regulations to his/her Manager, Coverage Compliance and Senior Management of Business Units.
  • Producing the Risk Monthly Metrics pack for Firmwide, Regional, Legal Entity and Business Units.
  • Partnership with Specialty Risk teams for Metrics reporting associated with Cyber, Information Security, Fraud etc.
  • Adherence to Governance requirements associated with Metrics inventory.
  • Performing metric data analysis (at global, regional, legal entity level etc.) and transforming data into dashboards for internal governance and monitoring.
  • Interacting with data providers and stakeholders to discuss data quality issues and breaches.
  • Collaborating with Op Risk Managers and assisting in the metric governance process.
  • Managing BAU support and catering to ad-hoc requirements on a timely basis.
  • Gathering requirements from teams on optimization ideas.
  • Analyzing process time saves on efficiency and optimization ideas implemented.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Should exhibit comfort working with technology and the ability to learn and display proficiency in technical systems and programs.
  • Proficient with MS Office.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as VBA and JavaScript is desired.
  • Knowledge of Lean or Six Sigma methodologies is desired.
  • Team player who can successfully manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Ability to think independently, form opinions and make decisions.
  • Ability to anticipate ahead of time and escalate issues as appropriate.
  • Pragmatic and analytical problem-solving skills - consistently apply sound judgment.
  • Good interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills with the ability to apply sound reasoning when delivering work.

Training & development

This is a 6-month internship program designed as an opportunity to learn more about the important role that Legal & Compliance plays within the Firm. This structured program is designed to give interns insight into this division and an opportunity to develop and master the analytical, quantitative, and interpersonal skills needed to develop an exciting and rewarding career. The training will continue throughout the course of the program with structured learning sessions run by senior executives.

The work schedule is Monday to Friday from 9 AM to 6 PM or 1:30 PM to 10:30 PM India time, depending on the team supported, with flexibility on standard working hours for time-sensitive matters (including India Public Holidays).
