What does a Graduate Asset Strategies Engineer in our Water team do?
From day-to-day you may:
- Use knowledge of general engineering concepts and related/complementary disciplines through investigation and analysis to support water engineering, asset management and advisory projects.
- Perform field work related to asset management activities as required, including the collection of asset data and undertaking of condition assessments.
- Conduct data analysis and preparation of graphical outputs to support development of insights to inform Asset Management Plans and Asset Class Plans.
- Perform basic engineering and financial calculations to assess, analyse and plan water network, asset and business solutions.
- Support investment decision-making via development and refinement of models and tools such as economic analyses models, asset lifecycle models, asset replacement cost models, etc.
- Apply well-developed report writing and communication skills to assist our planning, asset management and advisory teams in preparing assessments, solutions, reports, and presentations to support project outcomes and delivery.
- Apply technical skills, critical and analytical thinking, and commitment in a way which ensures project solutions are thoroughly developed, personally reviewed and delivered on time and on budget.
- Work with other technical and advisory disciplines and professionals in the coordination of projects, under the direction of a Senior Engineer/Consultant or Project Engineer/Consultant.
- Support the preparation of proposals, including development of basic methodologies to meet client requirements.
- Invest in maintaining broad, current and evolving technical knowledge.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
About You
- Tertiary qualification in Engineering.
- Double degree in finance or economics will be well regarded.
- Passion for learning and problem-solving
- Collaborative team player
- Eligible to work in Australia
- Currently in final year of degree or 1-2 years of experience

Pros
The best things about working at my company are the culture and the level of support that I receive from colleagues, and the Graduate program that Stantec offers.
Working at Stantec provides me with various opportunities to learn and grow with multidisciplinary teams.
The culture in the office is inclusive and diverse. There are many cultural events held in the office, building a great base for staff to have fun and be social.
Good team; I like the work that I do, and I have reasonable working hours as a grad, absorbing a lot of experience and knowledge early in my career.
It is not just about finishing the workload at the end of the day but also focusing on other development such as leadership and public speaking by joining DPG and Toastmasters.
Cons
The situation of my team overall is not good, and they have limited work to provide to graduates.
WFH culture has gotten more inflexible. And the associated annoyance of working in consultancy is filling out timesheets
Lack of recognition for work that I do and being overlooked for opportunities that other grads get.
I would like to work on different disciplines. For example, someone from the transport team working with the traffic or Geotech people to do some of their day-to-day work.
The salary for this position is ok but not ideal, especially if you are living in a big city like Sydney.
