Your role

The Sustainability Group leads the overarching strategy and initiatives on sustainability, spanning across how Temasek operates as an institution, shapes portfolios, and engages portfolio companies to build sustainable businesses. Temasek prioritizes five key levers for change as part of its sustainability strategy:  

  • Deploy capital to catalyze solutions that can enable companies to transition to a more sustainable future, and continuously increase the investments that are aligned to the Sustainable Living trend.  
  • Embed an Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) framework throughout the investment lifecycle. 
  • Engage portfolio companies to drive ESG value creation and support their transition towards a more sustainable future.  
  • “Walk the Talk” by implementing sustainable practices and developing a company culture that embraces sustainability.  
  • Seek out opportunities for collaboration with like-minded partners to contribute to the systemic changes required to solve sustainability challenges. 

Within the Sustainability Group, the Sustainability & Climate Change Strategy Team is responsible for setting Temasek’s strategy in driving total impact across the institution, portfolio, and ecosystem. This involves: 

  • Advancing strategy and policy towards net zero, nature-positive, and inclusive growth.
  • Understanding and keeping abreast with the broader sustainability context, evolving regulatory and market expectations, as well as resulting implications for Temasek as an investor.
  • Partnering with internal functional teams to advance sustainability practices as a firm, and raising awareness of sustainability issues through staff engagement activities.
  • Engaging Temasek's portfolio companies on top-of-mind sustainability topics to build capacity and resiliency. 

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the curation and implementation of an internal staff engagement program on sustainability (Project GO!).
  • Led the curation of the internal monthly sustainability newsletter Spotlight on Sustainability.
  • Support the planning and execution of key engagement platforms for our portfolio companies and high-level sustainability advisors.  
  • Support research relating to topical trends, standards, or global conferences, such as DEI, nature, taxonomy, blended finance, PRI, and UNFCCC COP.
  • Support the preparation of sustainability-related disclosures and peer analyses. 
  • Other institutional sustainability and research projects, as required. 

About you

To apply for this role, you have to meet the following qualifications:

  • Pursuing a Degree in sustainability management, business, and/or communications.
  • Strong interest in sustainability, environmental and social issues. 
  • Good at developing interesting staff engagement activities, event programming stakeholder coordination, and research. 
  • Strong strategy, analytical, project management, and presentation skills. 
  • Good communicator in both written and oral communication, with an eye for detail. 
  • Creative, forward-looking, and results-oriented, with a focus on execution. 
  • Ability to learn and thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
