Your role

Duties and Responsibilities

Org. Setting and Reporting: The internship is located in the Field Operations Finance Division (FOFD) in the Office of Programme, Planning, Finance and Budget (OPPFB) in the Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance (DMSPC). The SPM&GAMP Service provides strategic guidance concerning global property management and real estate services, including oversight of major construction projects and long-term capital planning. The internship is for three months, with possible extensions up to a maximum of six months, depending on the needs of the department. 

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Research and compile information relating to project mandates, expenditures, and adopted strategies, as they relate to project proposals and submissions;
  • Assist in drafting and preparing official documents, reports, and presentations;
  • Assist in organizing, attending, and summarizing meetings;
  • Generate a variety of statistical and other reports using various spreadsheets/data in Excel, SAP, and MS PowerBI;
  • Support evaluation of projects;
  • Identify variances between approved budgets and actual project expenditures;
  • Liaise with other Sections in FOFD and/or other UN entities on administrative matters;
  • Perform ad hoc tasks as needed.

Qualifications/special skills

  • Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
    • Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
    • Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
  • Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience.
  • However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.
  • Applicants must be a student in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor's or equivalent), Master’s, or Ph.D. Program or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master or PH.D. Program.
  • Applicants must have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint.

Languages:

  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship.
  • Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.
  • Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.

Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization. Successful candidates should discuss their specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer.
