Your role

Duties and Responsibilities

This internship is designed to be full-time and in-person but can be adjusted based on the needs of the successful candidate to part-time (20 hours per week) and/or remote. As part of the Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance (DMSPC)/Business Transformation and Accountability Division (BTAD) and Analytics and Project Management Team, the intern will support projects and initiatives related to introducing new ways of working with a focus on innovation, communications, and engagement. The incumbent will report to the relevant supervisor.

Duties may include:

  • Developing a network/online community engagement plan and calendar.
  • Plan and coordinate social events, network events, workshops, brainstorms, learning opportunities, etc.
  • Create engaging and shareable content for SharePoint, Viva Engage, and/or promotional videos to highlight new ways of working and innovation.
  • Develop community guidelines and monitor discussions and content on channels; and respond to inquiries promptly.
  • Provide feedback to management and stakeholders from the online community.
  • Plan and execute initiatives and programs to engage community members and generate action.
  • Monitor and report on campaigns and analyze web traffic using key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Explore outreach opportunities to recruit and engage more community members.
  • Work with partners across the UN system to amplify network reach and align on shared values and campaigns, in particular those related to UN 2.0 culture change.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Work-life balance

The United Nations strongly recognizes that interns need time for personal and social activities outside of work to maintain a healthy lifestyle. The intern is expected to work five days a week, on a full-time basis. They provide opportunities for interns to engage in meaningful work while ensuring they have time for personal growth and well-being.

Terms of the internship program:

  • The minimum duration of this internship is three months which can be extended up to a total period of six months.
  • Interns are expected to work on a full-time or part-time basis in the entity that has selected them, under the supervision of a staff member at an appropriate level.
  • The working hours will be discussed with your supervisor at the time of the interview. Internships may be undertaken based on flexible working arrangements if:
    • The receiving entity agrees in writing to accept an intern based on flexible working arrangements.
    • Interns agree that they are required to work the equivalent of a minimum of at least two months on a full-time basis or four months on a part-time basis to receive recognition of service as an intern.
  • An internship under such arrangements must be completed within six months.
    • A record of attendance shall be maintained by the receiving entity to ensure that the intern meets this requirement.
    • Interns serving in one entity do not have a right to transfer to another entity.

About you

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher)
  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
  • Excellent communication skills, written, verbal, and design.
  • Excellent planning and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent people skills including empathy and a human-centered approach.
  • Experience with planning virtual events -Knowledge of metrics and reporting.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Canva, Mural, Slido, Zoom, or similar tools.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite desirable.

Languages:

  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.

Additional Information

Visa and Work Authorization Mandatory Requirements: For internships in the United States of America, interns who are not United States citizens, permanent residents, or on another non-immigrant (such as an F1 visa) status, will be required to obtain a G4 visa. Interns will be responsible for ensuring that they have a valid visa, and if required, employment authorization (CPT/OPT), allowing them to undertake the internship.
