Your Role

Work Location:

This internship is designed to be full-time and in-person but can be adjusted based on the needs of the successful candidate.

Expected Duration:

3-6 months

Setting and Reporting:

This advertisement is for two (2) Fall/Winter internships located in the Sales and Marketing Section, Outreach Division of the Department of Global Communications in New York City.

The internship is unpaid and full-time and will last 6 months. Interns work up to five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision and support of the Marketing Officer. This internship is available as soon as possible.

About the team:

The Outreach Division engages and educates people and their communities worldwide to encourage support for the ideals and activities of the United Nations. The Sales and Marketing Section works to promote the United Nations' knowledge, communication, and outreach objectives by publishing, selling, distributing, and licensing, print and electronic publications, periodicals, and databases that disseminate UN knowledge, studies, and data.

The intern will assist the Sales and Marketing Section in designing and implementing the overall marketing strategy for United Nations Publications; promoting the UN brand; and driving demand for UN publications.

Duties & Responsibilities:

The selected intern may perform some of the following functions:

  • Assisting with planning and producing marketing campaigns across different channels and platforms
  • Providing logistic support for the organization of public events in the UN Bookshop
  • Drafting, formatting, editing, and posting original website content/news stories/ social media content, including graphics, photographs, and video
  • Maintaining databases and compiling reports
  • Conducting research on thematic issues
  • Assisting with the development and implementation of surveys
  • Providing general office support (processing, drafting, and finalizing correspondence and other communications; setting up and maintaining files/records, organizing meetings, etc.)

About You

Qualifications/special skills:

  • Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
  • Be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent).
  • Have graduated with a university degree (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent).
  • Be computer literate in standard software applications.
  • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter.
  • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
  • No work experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advanced course work, or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Languages:

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the internship advertised, fluency in English is required, and Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
