The position is located in the Multimedia Resources Unit (MRU) of the Audiovisual Services Section, of the Coverage and Media Services Branch, in the News and Media Division, Department of Global Communications. The mandate of MRU is to provide audiovisual library and archival services and distribute multimedia content to internal and external professional clients.
This opportunity is designed for an intern to work with experienced information management professionals. Interns will be assigned to one or more of the multimedia libraries – Photo or Audiovisual Library – based on individual backgrounds and references. Interns will be trained in multimedia archival collections management tasks such as preservation, accessibility, metadata management, client services and outreach. The intern is under the supervision of the Chief of the Multimedia Resources Unit.
Duration: This internship is designed to be in-person and full-time. Duration is two to six months.

Applicants who are children or siblings of a staff member shall not be eligible to apply for an internship at the United Nations. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor's or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Masters or PhD. Programme.
Applicants should have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams. The ability to draft news articles and/or social media posts is desirable. The ability to design surveys and polls is also desirable.
English or French are the working languages of the United Nations. For the internship advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
The United Nations does not financially remunerate interns. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization. Successful candidates should discuss their specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer.
