Project Management Graduate - LXRP at Victoria's Big Build
Bachelor of Civil Engineering (Honours) and Bachelor of Commerce at Monash University
08.30 AM
To begin the day, I have a site visit to one of LXRP’s projects with a few of the other LXRP Graduates. Site visits are always fun and a great way to check what is happening on site. I also gain valuable insights through site visits as I have the opportunity to ask questions from the engineers and workers on site.
10.00 AM
After the site visit, I get back to my office and the first thing I do is check my emails and messages. Next, I plan my day and write down a list of things that I need to work on throughout the day. I then head to the café near the LXRP city office to get a coffee. I then prepare for the meetings scheduled later in the day.
10.30 AM
Today I have a few meetings to attend. As part of my rotation with the Engineering team, I work with the Requirements and Assurance team. We have a weekly team meeting that allows us to discuss our work and bring up any concerns that we have. It is also a great way to provide updates to the team and discuss the progress that I have made over the past week.
11.30 AM
I then have a brief meeting with my manager to talk about my current tasks. I provide him with an update of what I have worked on and raise any queries that I have. We also review and discuss any new tasks that may be allocated to me. This meeting also acts as an opportunity for my manager and I to have a casual chat about life and my future career path.
12.00 PM
On days that I work from the office I usually have lunch with the other graduates. This is a great way to catch up with the other graduates and to talk about how the rotations are going. Having lunch with the other graduates is also a great way to keep in touch and it allows us to form stronger connections with each other.
01.00 PM
In this part of the day, I try to complete the tasks that have been allocated to me. One of the tasks I am currently working on is updating and maintaining a Waiver Database.
The next task is something that I am doing with the Requirements and Assurance team. This task involves tracing the Client Requirements to our Project Requirements Specification (PRS). Successfully completing this task requires me to utilise multiple computer programs and review client documents and Engineering drawings.
04.30 PM
Towards the end of the day, I update my “to-do” list and review the tasks that I have remaining. I then compose and send a few emails to finish the day.
05.00 PM
On most days I finish work around 5:00pm. After work, I usually go to the gym or play cricket or badminton to keep myself active. I then rest and watch some TV for the rest of the day.
