Dhruvi Vasani

Electrical Engineer Graduate – VHBA at Victoria's Big Build

Master of Construction Management at Deakin University

Dhruvi is another one of our new faces who has joined the 2025 Victoria’s Big Build Graduate Program, having graduated in September 2024 from Deakin University. As her first job in industry, she will be completing the 2-year program with the Victorian Health Building Authority (VHBA). Dhruvi is currently on her first rotation and has share with us what her typical day looks like!

07.00 AM

The alarm goes off, and it’s time to get ready! I start my morning with a quick breakfast and prep for the day ahead. No two days are the same, so I make sure I have everything I need - laptop, notebook, PPE if there is a site visit on the schedule.

Starting the day

08.30 AM

Living in Melbourne means an easy tram ride to office. I usually spend the commute listening to songs or catching up on news. It’s also a good time to mentally plan for the day ahead.

The Tram to work

08.50 AM

First stop: My desk. I check emails, review calendar and go through my to-do list.

Game face on!

09.00 AM

Every fortnight, we kick off with a check-in meeting to discuss progress, deadlines, milestones across all VHBA’s High Capital Program projects. It’s a great opportunity to gain insights into a variety of projects and connect with other teams.

10.00 AM

A much-needed coffee run with the team before the busy day ahead. We chat about projects, weekend plans and life in general - a great way to connect with the team!

Coffee run

10.30 AM

Back at my desk, I dive into the key tasks for the day. This might include - reviewing and editing documents for approvals, assisting with contract documentation, coordinating payments with consultants and contractors, and supporting the project manager with any coordination or issue resolution.

11.30 AM

One of the most interesting parts of the job is collaboration. There are usually meetings with different consultants and architects to review project progress and address any risks or challenges. Today, we are in a design workshop, where we are reviewing design plans, and discussing improvements based on feedback from the users.

Meetings!

01.00 PM

Time to recharge! Some days we head to nearby restaurants and other days we eat at the office. A good way to unwind and chat with colleagues. Today’s lunch featured some delicious leftovers from our team meeting.

Lunch

02.00 PM

Heading to site to see the project in action. This involves - checking the progress against the schedule, checking on any issues and taking notes and photos for documentation. It’s always rewarding to see how planning and design come together on site.

Site visit

04.00 PM

Back at the office, I document my site visit or finish up on my to-do list. I also use this time to catch up with my supervisor and seniors, where I clarify my doubts about the project or any industry-related query. It’s a good way to learn from their insights and experiences.

05.00 PM

The workday wraps up and I jump back on the tram home. Sometimes I listen to music or just enjoy the city view.

Heading home

06.00 PM

After work, I like to go for a walk and on lazy days just scroll through social media.

Unwind

07.00 PM

Cooking a masterpiece? Or microwaving leftovers? It’s a gamble. Either way, food + Netflix = recovery time

Dinner time

09.00 PM

I wind down, finishing the episode or read something. Then it’s time to sleep. Preparing for another exciting day tomorrow.
