Rama Asadi

Engineering Graduate at North East Link Project at Victoria's Big Build

Bachelor of Engineering at RMIT University

Rama, an Engineering Graduate with Major Road Project Victoria (MRPV) shares with us their experience working on the North East Link Project (NELP) as part of the program. Their work involves tracking delays and disruptions, reviewing Worksite Traffic Management Plans (WTMP), and ensuring minimal impact on the public.

I get up and get ready for the day ahead. I say goodbye to my cat and leave to site for the day!

09.00 AM

I start every workday by reading new emails in my inbox and updating the WTMP Register with the most current data. Then I get started on a to-do list for the day so that I can stay on track.

emails and to do list

09.30 AM

I head out to site to stay informed on ongoing works, which helps me understand project challenges firsthand (and it's always nice to see all the progress right in front of you rather than sitting at a desk all day)

10.30 AM

I meet regularly with my People and Capability contact for support and guidance throughout my grad program. Today I went into a little room to chat with Monika!

A new daily task for me is updating and maintaining the Disruptions Calendar I created to ensure any potential clashes are clearly highlighted. I made a few changes and moved on to my next task.

A weekly task that I've been doing for a while now is preparing the Weekly report for the Office of the Director General, which is a PowerPoint deck that shows current works, traffic delays, and disruptions. I filled this out with the most current data for the week.

12.30 PM

After a busy morning, I take a break to recharge for the rest of the day. Today was super sunny so I went for a little walk.

One of the emails I opened this morning was from our Project Support Officer requesting that I scan the logbooks for our two pool site cars and send them to her for tracking purposes, so when both cars were back in our carpark, I went and recorded those logbooks.

02.00 PM

I attend a Traffic Disruption Event Briefing for the Heyington Ave Shared Use Path construction and demolition works. This meeting, part of a three-month requirement, helps delivery teams plan confidently for disruption events.

Another weekly task! I prepare the WTMP agenda to be presented for the weekly 3:30 traffic meeting.

management plan update

03.30 PM

I join the Weekly Traffic Meeting to discuss upcoming works, disruptions, and mitigation plans. This meeting is attended by relevant people from MRPV, our Burke to Tram Alliance contract partners and representatives from the Department of Transport and Planning.

04.30 PM

I finalise tasks, update my team on progress, and set priorities for the next day before signing off.

wrapping up for the day

05.00 PM

I wrap up the day, pack up my things, and head home after a productive day in the traffic team.
