What it does: Coronado Global Resources is a leading international producer of high-quality metallurgical coal, an essential element in the production of steel.
Mission: We work together to get the best outcome
Size and presence: We employ approximately 1,600 people directly and over 1,800 contractors globally with our principal executive office located in Brisbane, Australia. Coronado is one of the largest Met coal producers globally, supplying customers on five continents with a range of high-quality coals.
Best known for: Our coals, transformed in the steelmaking process, support the manufacture of everyday steel-based products that enrich lives around the world – including steel needed for the manufacture of renewable energy infrastructure.
The good bits: Global Company that was growing and investing initially.
The not so good bits: Terrible Senior Executive Management, Private Equity majority-owned and dominated.
In 2011, Garold Spindler, James Campbell and The Energy and Minerals Group (EMG) set out to build a coal-producing company through the evaluation, acquisition and development of coal properties meeting a rigorous set of investment criteria:
At Coronado, we believe in the importance of enriching the communities in which we operate. Not only do we aim to be a safe, reliable, environmentally conscious employer of choice in each of these communities, but we also seek to give back in meaningful ways, from the ongoing support of local charities and environmental projects to sponsoring and conducting educational programs. We also encourage our employees and executives to regularly participate in local activities and events to ensure our focus on giving back extends throughout our organization.
Our Curragh mine site is our biggest global asset. Located in Queensland’s Bowen Basin near the town of Blackwater, the complex — Curragh Main and Curragh North — produces metallurgical coal. This coal is transformed in the steel making process to support the manufacture of everyday steel-based products, including renewable energy infrastructure that enriches lives around the world.
We are proud of the significant role we have played in the region for nearly 40 years as an employer, a business partner, and a major part of the Blackwater community.
Coronado has a clear growth strategy for Curragh. With approximately a 20-year life of mine, we offer great job stability for our team.
In Brisbane, our office is located on Queen Street in the city’s CBD. We have modern, spacious offices designed to enable effective collaboration within and across the business.
Opportunities are now open for people who want to work together, take ownership and drive safety and production excellence.
Coronado’s commitment to an inclusive workplace takes employees’ flexibility needs seriously. We respect our team members’ wishes to design work arrangements with their other life responsibilities in mind. Across our company, we aim to offer flexible work where it meets both business and individual needs. Check out our Flexible Work guidelines for options.

We are committed to managing our environmental performance and we are focused on maintaining our position at the forefront of environmental management in the Australian mining industry. We have an operational focus on managing natural resources, such as water and significant vegetation.
At Curragh, we have established an Environmental Management System (EMS), in full compliance with legislative requirements and covering all aspects of environmental management including water, biodiversity, rehabilitation, cultural heritage, greenhouse gas, energy and waste management. The EMS details the environmental controls employed at the site, assists with communication and implementation, and facilitates auditing and review of our environmental performance.
We are also a participant in the Australian Coal Associations COAL21 Program, which supports the pre-commercial demonstration of low emissions technologies to enhance the environmental performance of coal and reduce fugitive emissions associated with coal mining.
