Welcome to the Australian Department of Finance, an organisation where the people are as valued as the impact made on the community at large.
As a central agency in the Australian Public Service, it works on a wide range of topics that extend across other agencies and departments.
The people at Finance are considered its most important asset, and the department ensures that investment in them is a top priority. This is achieved through:
Finance plays a critical role in helping the Australian Government shape and implement its priorities, ensuring that public expenditure programs remain sustainable while reflecting best-practice financial management.
At Finance, staff can expect the support of a friendly and collaborative team, dedicated to achieving the best possible outcomes and going above and beyond to deliver exceptional results in each and every project. They will build long-lasting relationships and gain access to an extensive network of influencers and decision-makers, opening up a world of opportunities within the Commonwealth network.
The department offers its graduates a range of interesting opportunities and unique experiences. Graduates seeking a challenging position with real responsibility and supportive colleagues are encouraged to consider a place in the graduate program. Participants will gain exposure to a wide variety of work and have access to key decision-makers, with the government's agenda at the core of everything they do.
Assessment for Graduate recruitment varies, generally, you can expect:
The department is seeking graduates who are innovative—high-calibre individuals who are ambitious and adaptable. Candidates should be responsive and comfortable with change, eager to be challenged in a flexible and fast-paced environment. Above all, the department is looking for people with a positive attitude and a strong desire to learn.
The 12-month graduate program offers participants a range of interesting and challenging work, access to professional development, excellent employment conditions, support from various diversity networks, rewarding professional relationships, and buddies, as well as endless career opportunities and pathways.
Graduates in Finance will be supported through two six-month work placements, aligned with high-priority work where the skills and capabilities of graduates will be best utilised and developed. To ensure exposure to diverse work across the department, each placement will be in a different area of the business.
Support is provided through a dedicated induction program, a buddy who assists throughout the year, a variety of graduate events, access to health and wellbeing programs, and a team of supervisors and program managers to assist and guide graduates.
