Both men recognized the value of their respective populations. The success of Ernst & Young is entirely dependent on the character, aptitude, and tenacity of the men and women who comprise the firm, according to the company's operational philosophy. Young promoted career advancement. He created a staff academy in the 1920s, and the company was the first to hire students directly from college campuses in the 1930s.
